Jonas Rönnkvist
With 30 years of industry experience, Jonas brings extensive expertise in data strategy and business operations. During his tenure at Volvo Cars, he led the IT function for the connected car program and, in 2017, successfully established a new digital capability from the ground up. He played a pivotal role in observing and guiding the company's transformation into a software-driven organization, navigating the challenges of shifting a traditional automaker's ingrained culture.
As head of Data Business and Strategy, Jonas negotiated with OEM legal teams and mobile network operators alike, drawing on direct experience in both roles. He contributed to the global launch of HoloLens out of Seattle, an industry first, and represented Volvo in the regulatory work surrounding GDPR, NIS-2, and the EU Data Act, which defined the boundaries of what automotive data could be used for.
His career began in the electrical engineering program at Chalmers University of Technology and continued through Telia's trainee program in 1993. He went on to serve as CTO of a data center operation later acquired by EDS, and as bid manager for large-scale outsourcing engagements across the Nordics, where a single flawed assumption could shape a client's IT organization for a decade.
Jonas joined Volvo Cars in 2005 in Enterprise Architecture, where he worked to modernize a complex legacy IT estate inherited from a former parent company, spanning thousands of applications built in isolation from one another. When connected car emerged as a strategic question in 2010, he helped define the answer and then built the organization to deliver it.
Today his work covers digital strategy, data business, and software-defined vehicle transformation, including enterprise architecture, connected services, data monetization, and regulatory readiness. He supports clients through interim mandates and strategy engagements, and works with founders bringing connectivity products into OEM procurement processes.
