This morning, I attended a panel discussion at #AutotechDetroit2024 on “Revolutionizing Auto Tech: Subscription Services, Infotainment, and Fintech.” Moderated by Dan Teeter, Advisory Director of AutoMobility Advisors, the panel featured industry leaders Jana Breitkopf, Managing Director of Mercedes pay GmbH USA, Hans-Hendrik Puvogel, COO of Parkopedia, Ashton Pierre Director of Business Development – Connected at AT&T Business and Dr. Oliver Rumpf-Steppat, Head of Department-Product Requirements, D… BMW of North America. A key takeaway from the discussion was the emphasis on seamless user experience. For any new feature to be adopted, it must be frictionless and provide clear user benefits. The “Amazon Pay effect” was mentioned, highlighting that the process should be as easy as one click. Building consumer trust in vehicle-centric services like gas, charging, parking, and tolling is crucial. While services like food and coffee are not yet fully integrated, the potential for expansion is substantial. There has been a notable mindset shift towards accepting data monetization in subscriptions, indicating a promising trend for the future. Educating customers about new services without overwhelming them remains a challenge. The concept of a “nudge” element in prompting customers was highlighted as a critical feature to enhance user engagement. Utilization of Amazon Pay has significantly increased user engagement and retention, showcasing the potential of integrating trusted payment solutions in automotive tech. A huge thanks to Jana, Hans-Hendrik, Dr. Oliver Rumpf-Steppat, and Ashton for sharing their valuable insights, and to Dan Teeter for steering a lively discussion on a challenging topic. #automobility #connectedvehicles #innovation #connectedcarmonetization
