The last panel discussion I attended at #AutoTechDetroit2024 was a fitting conclusion to an excellent series of sessions and discussions. The session, on the topic of “Refining the IVI Experience: Exploring Opportunities Beyond the Dashboard,” was moderated by George Ayres, Managing Director at AutoMobility Advisors. The featured panelists were: Daniel Underwood from Nissan Motor Corporation Technical Center North America, David Kirsch from American Honda Motor Company, Inc., Elaine Chung from Wards Intelligence and Francesca Forestieri from GlobalPlatform™
The discussion emphasized the importance of balancing customer expectations with standardization efforts. OEMs aim to simplify integration processes while enabling a robust third-party ecosystem. This ecosystem can offer platforms and solutions that align with open-source standards and utilize generic data, which is crucial for cost feasibility and broader access.
Another critical point was the potential use of biometrics, similar to those in smartphones, as a future security solution for in-vehicle infotainment systems. The principle of “First, do no harm” remains paramount as new technologies are introduced.
As the industry progresses towards hands-off driving and #autonomousvehicles, the challenge lies in bringing, safety, #connectivity personalization, and entertainment to users in a balanced manner. This approach varies across OEMs, and the focus remains on primarily safety and enhancing the user experience.
#Privacy concerns were also highlighted, with a strong emphasis on providing services that protect user data. At the same time, #OEMs are actively seeking innovative solutions to these challenges while protecting user data.
Events like #AutoTech Detroit are invaluable for showcasing products and fostering discussions that drive the industry forward.
